Fortunately, some incredible day trips from Denver offer stunning views of fall leaves and outdoor adventures. From scenic drives through the mountains to hiking trails surrounded by golden aspens, there are many ways to soak up the season’s beauty. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, photographer, or simply looking for a break from the city, these autumn escapes will surely leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. So grab your sweater and a pumpkin spice latte and get ready to experience the best of Colorado’s fall colors.
PEAK SEASON FOR COLORADO FALL FOLIAGE
Colorado’s fall colors generally occur between mid-September and late October. The peak time to see fall colors in Colorado can vary based on the location’s elevation. At higher elevations, such as above 9,000 feet, the change of colors usually occurs earlier in September due to shorter days and cooler temperatures. The peak time typically occurs in mid-elevations between 6,500 and 9,000 feet in mid to late September or early October. In lower elevations, under 6,500 feet, the colors usually peak in early to mid-October. However, weather and temperature variations can cause differences in peak times from year to year, so it’s always best to check local leaf trackers to see when the colors are most vibrant.

Rocky Mountain National Park offers spectacular views of fall foliage. Here are some of the best places to see fall colors inside the park:

Peak Fall Colors: Late September through October
Georgetown, Colorado is the perfect destination for a fall foliage adventure. As summer fades away, the aspens of this quaint little town transform into a vibrant display of gold and oranges. Georgetown has many perfect spots where visitors can take a stroll, hike, or a scenic drive while surrounded by an array of colors.
Georgetown Loop Railroad
Riding the Georgetown Loop Railroad into the mountains provides an excellent view of the golden aspens.
Guanella Pass Scenic Byway
Driving the Guanella Pass Scenic Byway is an ideal way to experience the beauty of the Rocky Mountains without having to hike for miles. Hikers can choose from various trails at different difficulty levels along the route. North Cheyenne Cañon Park
North Cheyenne Cañon Park is a scenic canyon with towering rock formations and cascading waterfalls surrounded by gorgeous aspens, Gambel oak, and Ponderosa pines.
The Garden Of The Gods

THE LOST CREEK WILDERNESS
Lost Creek Wilderness is a hidden gem in the Colorado Rockies that is particularly striking in the fall. The Mount Goliath Trail is a cherished hike known for its picturesque views of the silver fir and bristlecone pine groves.

Visitors can take in the stunning autumn colors of aspen and maple trees, view wildlife such as elk and moose, and explore historic sites like the mining town of Black Hawk.
