Maraetai is in the very east of Auckland. The Pohutakawa Coast.
Offering spectacular views and an incredible location on the Pohutukawa Coast in Auckland’s east, families flock to this popular beach every summer. As a result, it is easy to see why Maraetai means ‘meeting place by the sea’ in Māori.
Maraetai is popular for its long wharf that stretches into the pacific ocean. On sunny days you will always find people diving into the water and people fishing off the wharf.
The drive to Maraetai is very beautiful and if you continue along the road you will stumble across a magnificent scenic drive around the coast.

The neighbouring Beachlands area also has three small, safe swimming beaches – Sunkist Bay, Shelley Bay and Green Bay. These sheltered white sand beaches are part of the Pohutukawa Coast, named for New Zealand’s native trees that make the coastline even more spectacular when their flaming blooms arrive in summer.
